 Gray Panthers have been advocates of a single payer health care system since our inception in 1970. We believe in Medicare for All - everyone in and no one left out. In the current health care debates, those of us who are single payer advocates and those who believe in a strong public option, with accessibility to all people, have been called plain old Un-American! While the debate rages on, Medicare as it exists today provides health care services for those who are age 65 and over and those with permanent disabilities. The program excludes no one within these groups because of income or a pre-existing condition. Medicare is a single payer, government-run health care system that is wildly popular with the people that it covers.
